I Like Trains Music Video Analysis (2/3)

'I Like Trains' is an animated music video created by 'TomSka' and I found this music video on YouTube. It has had over 5 million hits on YouTube and the main audience on YouTube is Males between the ages 13-17 and 18-24 and for females it is 18-24. It was released 23 September 2011 and comes under comedy. I find this music video very funny and also it has a number non diegetic titles on the music video which I like a lot.

The very first shot is of the diegetic titles of the music videos title called 'I Like Trains' We can see the 'I like trains kid' stood on top of the train as the train is moving on the track and a rainbow behind it, this rainbow could represent a number of feelings of the 'I like trains kid' as throughout the music video he has different feelings. The rainbow can also connotation as him being happy, him being happy also is reflected on the pace of the music too, all of the titles are very upbeat and in sync with the music too.
The 'I like trains kid' is enjoying himself while sat on the front of the train, it is making him happy as he keeps saying 'I like trains'.
It then goes through a story line of his life very quickly because the only thing that he likes is trains.
It first shows him being really cool just standing there in his glasses then it quickly moves on to that there must be something wrong with him as the only thing that he likes is trains. We can see that trains are the only things that are on his mind because when then next scene comes up really quickly we can see him looking into the mirror and him not seeing his reflection but a train instead. The lyrics are very in sync with what is on the screen. When the lyrics say 'there is something wrong with his brain' there is a close up of his brain and you can see is his brain in the shape of a train. After you get to see him in a medium shot and him saying that he likes trains and then it repeats to the chorus of the song again. There is the use of the non-diegetic titles used a lot within this music video, but instead of it being used too much, it is used just enough and it does have a very good effect on the music video. It is very fantasy and it is mixed with wild life as there is a low angle shot of the 'I like trains kid' sat on the front of the train and you can see trains flying in the air with wings. It then goes back to talk about his life and when he was born he never spoke a word to anyone when he was a baby but when he got to school and the teacher asked for his name he said 'I like trains' and as he says it a train comes and demolishes the full school. Then coming back to the chorus where he is again sat on the front of the train but instead of the trains being in the air, they are hopping above the water like dolphins, again another wild life reference, to him trains are alive. The story then goes through him getting ready to be married and then right at the last minute he says 'I like trains' and then everything repeats again. From on then the beat changes and if he doesn’t like something all he does is say 'I like trains' and then everything is better for him from then and on. Then the beat totally slows down and has reference to YouTube about the like and dislike button which shows the synergy here, it has been posted on YouTube and the only place you would find something like this would be on YouTube. Right at the end he says that he likes trains once more and then it ends with a poof of smoke.

Within this music animation video there a number of dominant camera angles. For examples there is the close up of the 'I like trains kid' in the beginning shot. It then quickly zooms out to reveal a wide angle shot of the train and the environments surroundings. There is the use of low and high angle shots too. When the 'I like trains kid' is at the altar he gives a smile, this is a high angle shot, this angle being used to show that he is being looked down on by his wife stood there. There is also when he is in the doctor’s office too when he is sitting there sad. The low angle shot is when he is on the train, this shot is used to show he is happy and most of all, he is confident too.

The prime colours used within this music video is the rainbow and also red for the blood. The rainbow shows that he is very happy when he says 'I like trains'. The colour red is used mainly when he says that 'I like trains' and people get ran over by a train.

Within this music video there is a story behind the 'I like trains kid' as it starts off by him saying 'I like trains' and then goes straight into his life by saying about what happened when he was a kid, then what happened when he was in school then after that it goes to him being in a doctor’s office and him being prescribed some pills that stop him saying 'I like trains' then he turns his life around and at the last minute it happens all again, he says 'I like trains'.

The genre of this music video would have to be a parody; not very sure on the music genre as I wouldn’t know how to classify it, I can classify it as being very upbeat though.
The conventions of a parody is something that makes the audience laugh a lot but most importantly it has to be aimed at the right type of audience with the right type of humour, having the wrong type of humour have a bad effect on a video which is supposed to be funny
